The 2025 National Children’s Month celebration centers on the theme “OSAEC-CSAEM Wakasan: Kaligtasan at Karapatan ng Bata, Ipaglaban!” which calls for stronger action to end Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM). This theme emphasizes the urgent responsibility of every sector—government, families, schools, communities, and digital platforms—to protect children in an increasingly digital world. As the internet becomes more accessible to young people, the risks they face also grow, making it essential to raise awareness and strengthen protection systems.
The government continues to address these threats through stronger laws and policies. One of the most important efforts is the implementation of the Anti-OSAEC and Anti-CSAEM Act, which provides stricter punishment for offenders and requires online platforms to detect, report, and remove harmful content involving children. Government agencies like the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Justice (DOJ), and Philippine National Police (PNP) also coordinate to monitor online activities, rescue victims, and ensure that abusers are held accountable. These measures show that the government recognizes the seriousness of online exploitation and aims to create safer digital environments for children.
Aside from law enforcement, the government also focuses on supporting victims, promoting mental health services, and offering safe spaces where children can report abuse. Schools and communities are being encouraged to educate both children and parents about online safety—such as recognizing online grooming, protecting personal information, and avoiding suspicious websites and strangers online. By empowering children with knowledge, they become more capable of protecting themselves from digital threats.
Overall, the 2025 National Children’s Month celebration reminds us that protecting children’s rights is a shared responsibility. While the government continues to strengthen laws and support systems, communities must also work together to create a safe environment—both online and offline. Every child deserves protection, respect, and dignity. Ending OSAEC and CSAEM is not only a legal responsibility, but a moral duty that every Filipino must uphold.
